what is typhoon? A  typhoon  is a mature tropical cyclone that develops between 180° and 100°E in the Northern Hemisphere. This region is referred to as the Northwestern Pacific Basin, and is the most active tropical cyclone basin on Earth, accounting for almost one-third of the world's annual tropical cyclones. When they reach populated areas, they usually bring very strong winds and rain which can  cause  a lot of damage. Hurricanes are tropical storms that form over the North Atlantic Ocean and Northeast Pacific. Cyclones are formed over the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.  Typhoons  are formed over the Northwest Pacific Ocean. The main effects of tropical cyclones include heavy rain, strong wind, large storm surges near landfall, and  tornadoes . The destruction from a tropical cyclone, such as a hurricane or tropical storm, depends mainly on its intensity, its size, and its location.
